Artist Nocolas Gadbois
Biography
Born in Iowa Nicolas Gadbois grew up in the Midwest and began making art at a young age. He learned commercial illustration from his father in Minneapolis. During the 1980s he worked as an illustrator at a large ad agency in Los Angeles by day and played music in bands by night. In 1990 he discovered the medium of cement and incorporated it into his artwork creating a series of cement paintings. At this time Nicolas was exhibiting in numerous galleries in Los Angeles. During the 1990s he built a house in north central Washington and launched his own business Earthtone. He developed various applications for functional art combining artistic concrete work with construction. He has exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and Santa Fe and his work is included in many private and corporate collections.
