early work
Nicolas Gadbois' painting career encompasses a diversity of styles. There is an ongoing quest for new materials and methods of application. His early works have a vibrant psychedelic quality to them. In the 1990s he produced paintings dealing with maps, topography and aerial perspective. The most recent paintings involve a build-up and excavation of materials. This is a sampler of his adventurous artistic spirit during the past 22 years.
With Gadbois you can't figure out if he is praising the industrial age, lamenting it or cursing it: the paintings are too beautiful and forboding simultaneously.
